Hathaway Preserve

13.8-acres of pristine forest with spectacular stands of mature hemlock forest and sandstone outcrops

The Hathaway Preserve is a 13.8-acre property located along SR 56 near Laurelville, Ohio.   This property was acquired by AOA in 2025 and is close proximity to AOA’s outstanding 86-acre Menchhofer Preserve in Hocking County.

The acquisition of this property protected a relatively mature forest with impressive stands of hemlock that cover several ravines. This forest also has periodic mature oaks, maple and beech.  The forest shows no evidence of timbering for the last 80 to 100 years.  The hemlock ravines are pristine and have very few invasive species.

The Preserve also features steep ravines with Black Hand sandstone outcrops.  The property is botanically diverse and has a large variety of wildflowers.
